Lost in Lona — The Killer
Since the release of their debut «Scared Like A Mother and Her Gun» (2024), a lot has changed for Lost in Lona. Not loudly, but profoundly. Lidia Beck and Konstantin Aebli, the duo from Basel and Zurich, have sharpened their sound, stripped themselves bare, and found the courage to look where it really hurts.
Right from the start, the title track «The Killer» asks the uncomfortable question: How much pressure can a young person really take? In a world obsessed with self-optimization, there’s no space left for ease. Only the quiet realization: I waste my life most of the time.
The album speaks of overwhelm, of old conversations that still echo (Emily), of expectations that weigh on your chest like concrete (Disappointing Each Other).
It speaks of desire that slowly fades when recognition never comes (Looking For) — and of decisions that never truly feel right. The Wrong Cards tells of the moments we cry out for safety, even though, deep down, we’re already halfway out the door.
In Mathilda, Lidia Beck sings about her alter ego, an inner friend torn between two worlds. Hold On goes even deeper: into family patterns passed down through generations. "My mother’s mum – she was the one to fear her daughter’s growth."
And then there’s The Movies, a final song like a long, quiet breath. A soft closing chapter that leaves everything open: Let’s go to the movies and guess all the endings, and if they’re not soothing, I’m the only one attending.
Despite all its heaviness, there’s something deeply comforting in these songs. Because they say out loud what many only think. Because they create closeness where silence usually lives. Because they show how much beauty can lie in raw honesty.
«The Killer» isn’t a concept album, and yet everything is deeply connected. It’s about being young in a world full of expectations. About self-doubt, closeness, fear, and new beginnings. With «The Killer», Lost in Lona come closer to their true selves than ever before.
