iuri — Soon

iuri's debut album Soon casts shadows in purple instead of black and white. Its eight songs portray a multifaceted present, rife with contradiction and simultaneous, overlapping occurrences. There is no reprieve as iuri trusts their audience to move through the world freely. Hands outstretched to the listener, bravery is shared.

iuri enters into interaction with eyes wide open, observing carefully and without sorting into categories, remaining uncertain, drifting, questioning. Small observations evolve into a poetic reckoning with their socialization, leading to an exploration of their personal perspective without revolving only around themselves. Insecurities and fear are not tucked away but are placed center stage where iuri sings to and with them, pushing beyond them as they do so.

They are never alone in this endeavor: backed by choir, drums, synths, clarinet and guitar, buoyed by fellow artists. Working closely with other artists from the beginning allowed the stories of each song to proliferate and grow. Soon combines the musical landscapes of Tara Cunningham, Anuk Schmelcher, Cori Nora, Alon Ben, as well as many others with lightness and ease.

Experimentation, co-creation, daring, showing yourself in an unfinished and uncertain state: these are both process and philosophy underlying iuri's debut album Soon. We sit and observe as the colours evolve in changing light.
