IKAN HYU — ▓▓▓▓ (PINK NOISE)

Playful in sound and big in attitude – make room for IKAN HYU’s new single PINK NOISE!

The single is named after an acoustic phenomenon, pink noise, which similar to white noise is made up of a dense amount of frequencies that sound like a rushing waterfall. The duo creates this sound using their moog synthesizer, it can be heard throughout the song and fills in parts of the lyrics during the chorus.

I’m not here to decorate, I am here to fill up the room – a main line in the song – is not only a statement that does justice to the duo’s stage presence, but also reflects the energy both band members bring into the songwriting process. To IKAN HYU, writing music is about having fun and experimenting, but also about putting yourself out there and voicing your opinion.

What started out as a one-day jamming and producing session in Vienna, where Hannah (who usually plays drums) switched things up and played the guitar, was completed in a similarly organic way, with vocals and overdubs written and recorded in the alps in between touring.

Just like with their previous single side fx, PINK NOISE features lead vocals from both Anisa and Hannah – even though the mood is very different. While side fx is a dreamy and melancholic song, PINK NOISE is a bold testimony to IKAN HYU’s sonic force. 

While these first singles might seem like they belong to two different universes, they are linked by the band’s creative approach of unapologetic self-expression.
