OY — Nkrabea - Destiny

Joy Frempong and Melodydreamer alias OY pick up on their club past with the latest single “Nkrabea-Destiny”.

The track is not only the rousing title song of their soundtrack for a documentary filmed in Ghana, but also combines personal roots with pulsating Amapiano sounds, Afrobeats and Highlife chords. Featuring a memorable hook sung in Twi, Ghana’s most widely spoken language and the native tongue of vocalist Joy’s father, the lyrics echo a soulful call to fate: “You call me, I follow you, my destiny.” This energetic anthem not only celebrates the power of rhythm but also pays homage to personal heritage and identity.

The accompanying documentary, Fight For The Ball, tells the compelling story of Kaka, a 20-year-old aspiring footballer. As he waits for the chance to secure a visa to play in Europe, Kaka returns to his hometown of Kumasi for a heartfelt farewell with his mentor, Coach Sani. The film explores themes of ambition, closure, and the ties that bind us to our past.

The single’s artwork, created by Yaw Tony, features a modern interpretation of the Nkrabea symbol, representing destiny in Ghanaian Akan culture. This emblem serves as a reminder to embrace life’s opportunities while recognizing the influence of chance in shaping our paths.
